"Breaking Eurydice"

Mar 9|Bernhard Music Center Room 30|4:15 PM|free

Wadsworth, ZacharyAssistant Professor of Music Zachary Wadsworth hosts this Faculty Talk titled Breaking Eurydice.

Zachary Wadsworth will present his recent composition “Eurydice” for soprano and strings, premiered last summer at the Staunton Music Festival, where he is a composer-in-residence. The composition uses fragments of imagined Renaissance music and poetry by Hilda Doolittle to break and reassemble the story of Orpheus and Eurydice. Incorporating modern notions of gender and the male gaze, Wadsworth will discuss how old stories can be reframed and reimagined in contemporary music.
