Musical Celebration of Life to Honor Scott Smedinghoff ’09

A “Musical Celebration of the Life of Scott Smedinghoff” will be held at the Old First Congregational Church in Old Bennington, VT, on Saturday, June 11, at 3:00 p.m. This event is free and open to the public.

Under the direction of guest organist Edwin Lawrence, a chamber orchestra and choir made up of musicians from Sage City Symphony, Williams College, the Bennington County Choral Society, the Bennington Children’s Chorus, church singers and musical colleagues from near and far, and family and friends will present a program of hymns, selections from J. S. Bach’s Jesu Meine Freude and Handel’s Messiah, as well as other works.

Scott was an immensely talented and beloved organist/pianist and choir director at the Old First Church and the First Baptist Church of Bennington, Vermont. He also played with Sage City Symphony on occasion and conducted the annual community sing-along of the Messiah in Arlington, VT for several years, as well as accompanying the Bennington County Choral Society, the Bennington Children’s Chorus, and numerous other area groups and soloists. He was 28 years old when he died in January 2016 at his home in New Hampshire, where he was a fourth-year doctoral student in mathematics at Dartmouth College; he earned his bachelor’s degree in mathematics and physics from Williams in 2009.
