2014 Berkshire Symphony Student Soloist Competiton Winners Announced

2014_Berkshire_Soloists_0034_MINIWinners of the annual Berkshire Symphony Student Soloist Competition were announced late on the evening of February 18, 2014 following the deliberation of the judges presiding over a competition involving 14 Williams College music students. In a three hour program open to the public, listeners were treated to some of the best that Williams has to offer.

Lysander Jaffe ’14, viola; Claire Leyden ’16, soprano; and Joyce Lee ’17, piano have been chosen to appear with the Berkshire Symphony in the fourth and final regular season concert on Friday, April 25, in Chapin Hall, a concert which showcases the remarkable talents of Williams students. Sato Matsui ’14 will also be presenting the world premiere of her newest composition.

The competition is open to Williams College students who have completed required instrumental or vocal studies and are enrolled in qualifying courses. The soloists present one movement for soloist and orchestra from a concerto, a single-movement work, a concert or operatic aria, or song cycle.
