The Williams Jazz Ensemble under the direction of Andy Jaffe presents an exciting concert of classic big band swing on the stage of Chapin Hall. The ensemble presents works from their traditional and contemporary repertory. The band’s vitality can be credited to Andy Jaffe, a noted composer, arranger, and jazz performer, who for 24 years has been the educator behind this special group of talented young jazz musicians.

Held on Family Weekend, the Williams Jazz Ensembles features eighty minutes of continuous music. Opening with two short pieces, a small group plays music composed and arranged by students of jazz at Williams.  Also appearing is a small ensemble led by Prof. Avery Sharpe. The full 23 piece big band brings it home with a performance featuring music by Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Ellis Marsalis, and Bill Finegan.

This free event is open to the public.
