Floyd Herbert

Biography

Floyd Herbert is Artist Associate in Flute at Williams College and has been principal flutist with the Berkshire Symphony Orchestra since joining the orchestra in 1990. He has also been principal flutist with the Albany Symphony Orchestra in Albany, New York, since 1984, and has played with the Glimmerglass Opera Orchestra in Cooperstown, New York, since 1976. He was co-founder and director of the Hyde Hall Chamber Players in Springfield Center, New York and flutist for the Catskill Chamber Players in Oneonta, New York, where he resides.

He received a B.A. in music from the School of Music at Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana, where he studied flute with Paul Boyer, and a M.M. in flute performance from the School of Music at Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut, where he studied with Thomas D. Nyfenger. When he was a boy, he studied with his father, Henry O. Herbert.
