Sophia Vargas ’10, violin
The Williams College Department of Music will present a Senior Recital featuring Sophia Vargas on Friday, April 30, at 4:15 p.m. in Brooks-Rogers Recital Hall on the Williams College campus. This free event is open to the public.
Vargas will be playing Bach’s Partita for Violin No. 2 in D, Henri Vieuxtemps’s Violin Concerto No. 5, Debussy’s Sonata for Violin and Piano, and Brahms’s Piano Quartet No. 3 in C. She will be joined by musicians Chengjia Jin ’12, Catherine Lamb ’13, Adam Lee ’11, and Noah Lindquist ’08.
Sophia grew up in Rockland county NY and started playing violin at age 6 with Anna Teigen. Soon after, she began taking classes at Rockland Conservatory and at age 9 Sophia was accepted into Manhattan School of Music Pre-College division in New York City where her principal teachers were Marjorie Bagley and Karen Rostron. Sophia has participated in chamber groups and youth orchestras at both institutions as well as Suzuki festivals, the Elizabeth Morrow Summer string festival, and Point Counter Point Chamber Music Festival. At Williams College she studied violin with Joanna Kurkowicz, chamber music with Ronald Feldman and has played in the Berkshire Symphony Orchestra. Currently Sophia is a student of Joana Genova and will be graduating this spring with a B.A. in Mathematics.
