Williams Chamber Players
Williams College Department of Music presents Williams Chamber Players in a concert on Friday, Feb. 12, at 8 p.m. in Brooks-Rogers Recital Hall on the Williams College campus. This free event is open to the public.
The Williams Chamber Players begin the evening with the Mozart Trio in B flat, K. 502. Also on the program is a song cycle, Present and Future, by composer and Williams faculty member Zachary Wadsworth sung by Kerry Ryer-Parke with Mr. Wadsworth at the piano. This colorful cycle explores the broadest range of emotions, from unbridled joy to bitter disappointment, in a woman’s wrenching but ultimately hopeful monologue about her failed marriage. A short piece by Chen Yi titled, YangKo for Solo Violin and Two Percussionists, with Joana Genova, violin, and percussionists Matthew Gold and Jay Sager, fills out the first half of the program. The finale piece is the monumental Trio No. 2 by Dmitri Shostakovich, featuring Joana Genova, violin; Nathaniel Parke, cello, and Elizabeth Wright, piano.
The Williams Chamber Players was founded in 1999 and is coordinated by Doris Stevenson. The Williams Chamber Players is a resident faculty chamber music ensemble at Williams. The ensemble offers performers and audiences the opportunity to explore chamber music over a range of periods and styles. Distinguished performance faculty share the joy of making music together to the delight of student and community audiences.
