Williams Jazz Ensemble
The Williams College Department of Music presents the Williams Jazz Ensemble directed by Kris Allen on Friday, April 28 at 8 p.m. in Chapin Hall on the Williams campus. This free event is open to the public.
The band presents music associated with Count Basie – from “old school” Kansas City riff-based blues, to “new school” charts by Frank Foster, Neil Hefti, and Ernie Wilkins. Also in the mix are lesser known Latin-tinged arrangements for the Basie band by Oliver Nelson and Benny Carter, as well as a 21st century reboot of Hefti’s “Cute” arranged by Bob Mintzer.
