Williams Jazz Ensemble with Sean Jones Group
The Williams College Department of Music presents the Sean Jones Group, featuring trumpeter Sean Jones performing with the Williams Jazz Ensemble directed by Andy Jaffe on Friday, April 27 at 8 p.m. in Chapin Hall on the Williams campus. This free event is open to the public.
Once again, the Williams Jazz Ensemble shares the music of a special artist, a talent appealing to both jazz aficionados and layman alike. Sean Jones is a former lead trumpeter for Wynton Marsalis’ Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra. Showcasing the results of a residency with the noted trumpeter, the Williams Jazz Ensemble features him as soloist. In the second half of the concert, the Sean Jones Group takes the stage. The group includes Philadelphia native George Burton on piano; bassist Luques Curtis, who co-leads a Latin-oriented quartet with his pianist brother Zaccai; and drummer Justin Faulkner. Saxophonist Brian Hogans lines up beside Sean Jones to weave their unique harmonic and melodic fabric.
The Williams Jazz Ensemble plays big bad concerts on campus and on the road in locations from the Boston area to New York, as well as throughout Western Mass. In January 2008, the Ensemble was in residence at the University of the Americas in Puebla, Mexico.
