WiPE & Concert Choir & Chamber Choir
The Williams College Department of Music presents the Williams Percussion Ensemble together with the Williams Concert Choir on Friday, May 6 at 8 p.m. in Chapin Hall on the Williams campus. This free event is open to the public.
The performance by the combined ensembles is titled, “(ASK) – Music for Voices and Percussion.” One major work is, a Sound uttered, a Silence crossed by Nathan Davis, with libretto by Laura Mullen, a co-commissioned piece which also features electronics, hydrophones (amplified water tubs), and audience participation via smart phone. There are also works by William Duckworth, Thomas A Dorsey, Kate Moore, and Daniel Wohl. Talented Williams seniors share conducting duties with directors Matthew Gold (percussion) and Brad Wells. Daniel Potter ‘16 and Claire Leyden ‘16 take turns at the podium leading the choir, and Austin Paul ‘16 of the percussion ensemble also leads from the front.
“(ASK) – Music for Voices and Percussion” is performed in historic Chapin Hall, a beautiful concert space that has recently undergone extensive renovation and restoration.
