Spring Symphony Soloists Selected!

The Williams College Department of Music is delighted to announce the results of the Berkshire Symphony Student Soloist Competition for 2016!

The panel has selected (left to right):

S042116 Student Soloists CALMichael Chen ’18 and Stephen Ai ’18, piano
Poulenc – Concerto for Two Pianos – Allegro ma non troppo

Claire Leyden ’16, soprano
J. Strauss – Frühlingsstimmen, op. 410

Scott Daniel ’17, violin
Sibelius – Violin Concerto in D Minor – Adagio

Nathaniel Vilas ’17, piano
Grieg – Piano Concerto in A minor – Allegro molto moderato

Hosted by Ronald Feldman, conductor of the Berkshire Symphony, and judged by a panel of guest musicians – Joel Pitchon (strings), Paul Green (winds), Gili Melemed-Lev (piano), and Amanda Boyd (voice) – the judges and audience were spoiled for choice.

Mr. Feldman concluded, “[It was] an amazing evening! It goes without saying that this was the most competitive competition I have been involved with at Williams. The judges could easily have chosen more winners than we could possibly fit on one concert.”

The student musicians have been selected for the honor of performing their pieces along with the Berkshire Symphony on Thursday April 21, 2016 at 8 p.m. in Chapin Hall on the Williams College campus.

We also want to thank all of the performers, their collaborating pianists, and their teachers (in performance order):
